Experience has no parallels and empathy has no substitute. When a person, rich in experience and empathy decides to write a book we get a masterpiece called Financial Planning for the Families Having Children with Special Needs.
About the Author
This book is written by Jitendra Solanki, who is a SEBI Registered Investment Advisor (Regn. No. INA10000184), Certified Financial Plannercm, and Certified Trust and Estate Planner (CTEMcm). Over a work experience of seventeen years, Jitendra has developed a niche in creating and executing financial and succession plans for families with children having special needs. As a consequence of working closely with such families, he has gained phenomenal insights in this area. All these insights and experience is extensively used in authoring this book.
About the book
The first few chapters are kind of building blocks upon which the whole book is based. After introducing domestic statistics, the author has raised questions like how parents react upon hearing the news, what kind of challenges are faced by the families, whether we need a different approach than traditional financial planning? Interestingly, he has then divided a child’s life with special needs into various stages and the crucial aspects we need to think and plan. The families financial and emotional challenges are clearly spelt, and the possible solutions are also discussed.
The micro-level discussion holistically covers all aspects of planning, covering emotional, legal, governmental, and of course financial. In fact, the way the author has given his views on various aspects shows his experience and command over the subject. Practical case studies are included to help the readers connect easily with the situations and parents’ emotions. Lastly, the section on various schemes and benefits available and the important websites for extracting requisite information is like icing on the cake. How easy or difficult is to avail such benefits is a different question and will depend on individual experience, though.
Who should read this book?
Ideally, this book will serve as a primer for all such families who have children with special needs. It will be very relevant for parents looking for honest, holistic, and unbiased opinions on the prudent ways to handle life and finances. However, I would suggest all the parents read this book because of it’s insights to help someone in their sphere of influence if the situation demands it.
